In one word: brilliant.
I came across this watch in a YouTube review and half an hour later jumped to order.
The Steinhart Ocean One 39 ticked all the boxes:
1) 39mm diameter (watches seem to be finally returning to wearable sizes IMO - to be explored).
(Disclaimer: my sweet spot is 38mm - 40mm)
2) a Rolex Submariner homage with its own personality (just look at the case design - unlike the Ginault Ocean Rover that is arguably of better quality but simply mimics the submariner)
3) all the technical specs (automatic ETA elaboré movement; ceramic bezel; sapphire crystal; superluminova)
4) Swiss made - for what it’s worth. German company with great track record.
The watch arrived in 3 days, in perfect conditions. Costumer service was prompt and efficient for a request to speed dispatch.
First impression was amazing. The look, feel and weight of the watch simply overwhelmed my expectation. The YouTube reviews don’t do it justice. And it wears even better. I have been wearing it non-stop for two months and don’t get tired of it (too long for honeymoon period?).
To be completely honest, I have the same feeling wearing it as of when I purchased my Rolex Explorer II 16570 (my favorite watch to date). Now, in all fairness (and please don’t get this wrong) I never got to buy my “grail” Submariner 11610. Before I could get one it was discontinued and I can’t get used to the fattened lugs of the current model (pre-owned not an option for this one).
Agreed, it may be that my impression of the Steinhart Ocean One 39 is being influenced by what I think the Sub 11610 would wear like. But the fact remains that this is an amazing watch and I’m excited to have it. Definitely a keeper.
As for accuracy, it has been keeping perfect time.
Price: 410 euros. Incredible value for money.
